Vi is visibly pleased by your offer. She gets up and sits beside you, sidling closer to you. “I’m glad Hilde and Tess are in my care, under the aegis of the Mundilfari family name,” she whispers. “And now, I’m strong enough to return the care that Hilde has provided me for so long. But I sometimes feel tired when I remember that this is how I’ll live – forever.”
She yawns, head tilting towards you. “It’s only just the beginning of my night. I’m usually most awake by this time. Why do I feel… so comfortable?” she murmurs, the wine undrunk and forgotten.
Her eyes flutter shut, and your when you bring your arm around her bare, delicate shoulders to keep her warm, she leans in. You wrap her in your arms, allowing her to rest.
You can hear a soft and near-silent trill from the Countess: “Thank you.”
By the time Tess unlocks the front door to the Grand House, Vi has fallen asleep in your arms, red lips slightly parted as she unconsciously whispers your name. Tess doesn’t dare to stir her, and she gives you a delighted wink as she takes off her shoes. She heads back upstairs… and you’re left to care for the First Vampire.
Until daybreak, when she’ll awake in your arms and the night before will seem like a sweet and happy dream.
