To Ensnare a Mundilfari: Arendelle’s Old Families

Featured image art by Inkwhite (@Inkwhite_mo)

It was a quiet evening in Arendelle Castle, which now doubled as a temporary home for the kingdom’s most prominent countess and her retainers. In olden times it would have been crushing, humiliating, for Vi to be driven from her own residence of the Grand House on the foothills of Arendelle, and to seek shelter with the currently absent queen. But for the First Vampire, it was perhaps better this way: she cared a lot less about appearances now, and she was more interested in protecting those close to her, Tess and Hilde. There was nothing wrong with crashing at Anna’s, anyway: Her Majesty had made Vi, already the prime minister, effectively regent while Anna was in China.

So Vi, her werewolf guardian and general Hilde, and her human attendant Tess slowly got used to life in Arendelle Castle, with Vi even moving some of her Mundilfari paraphernalia into the home of the royal family – something that would have been quite unthinkable during Agnarr’s or Elsa’s reigns. The Mundilfaris, influential as they were over Arendellian affairs, were feared, and their dark association with black magic and the demon Mephistopheles forever tainted their name despite their standing among the Scandinavian nobility.

Michael’s Musings Special: Open Letter To A Certain Stalker…

Featured image art “Your countess” by Inkwhite (@Inkwhite_mo)

By Michael (@of_michel)

After reading my good friend Sir Alan’s article to this mysterious stalker of our prime minister, First Vampire (and close, personal friend) Viola Mundilfari, it’s time I added my 2 schillings worth on this sore subject.

To the cowardly stalker of Viola Mundilfari:

“Trade minister” by PURY (@puryartist)

You probably know who I am from my position in in Queen Anna’s Government and my articles in this fine newspaper, nevertheless, I’ll introduce myself.

I’m Michael, Arendelle’s trade minister, uncle to Queen Anna and Snow Queen Elsa, and a fellow minister and personal friend of PM Viola Mundilfari.

For a couple of weeks or so, Viola, myself, her friends and family, have had to put up with your posters and hand bills, slandering and badmouthing Viola. Of course, Princess Danny ripped them down and then made a nice fire to roast marshmallows and stargaze under the night sky with Vi, Danny and myself. You were just like an empty can, rattling and making a lot of noise and no more.

Then, you stepped over the line, my fiend. You invaded the home of Viola, Hilde Von Altheim, and Tess. Painting slurs on the gates of the Grand House and tossing rotten fruit on her doorstep. You went a bridge too far, and now we’re all looking for you. Payback is hell.

I don’t know what is driving at you to do this. Maybe it’s for past sins of the Mundilfari clan. Or what she had to do in London. Whatever it was or why, you just stepped into a deep hole of reindeer shiatsu with us. Alan posted his thoughts, here are mine.

An Attack on One of Us is an Assault on Us All

Featured image “The First Vampire” by hannah.digiart (@HDigiart)

By Alan (@alannadeau2016)

“Alan” by Arute (@ast05water)

It’s been a while since I’ve last submitted an article here, but, with the Russo-Arendellian War long since over, and Anna having gone with my love, Elsa, and the others to the Forbidden City to visit Yixin, it’s given me some free time to do some more training and also to relax, spend some time with Vi, Michael, and Danny, among others.

But now, things have gotten serious yet again. Some crazy person has decided to stalk Viola the Countess – the First Vampire, if you will. Hateful messages, attacks on her own home which have forced her, Tess, and Hilde, to move to Arendelle Castle for the time being… This is ridiculous. Whoever this is, they have a clear vendetta against Viola, and I understand that. The Mundilfaris have done a lot of bad things over the years, decades, centuries even. Viola is the last in that line, and she’s changed over, but her surname and heritage remain. And some salty fool out there – someone in Arendelle – wants revenge.

Well, I’ve got something to say about that. Anyone that knows me should understand that it was only a matter of time before I sounded off about something like this. So here we go.

Whoever you are, whoever is doing this to Viola, I hope you’re reading this. I hope you come across this, because let me explain something to you. You do not, under any circumstances, mess with the countess of Arendelle. Don’t screw with Viola Mundilfari.

VANDALS! Prime Minister’s Grand House EVACUATED

By Gudrun, Home Reporter for The Arendelle Guardian

In an escalation of petty crimes against the prime minister and countess of Arendelle, Viola Mundilfari’s Grand House, a stately Nordic manor on the foothills of the kingdom, was vandalized, its small front gate painted with the words “NIGHT CREATURE,” “FAILURE,” “DEMON’S SLAVE” and other insults and slurs too horrible to record here. There was also rotten fruit found by the porch of the townhouse and sliding down the main door. Someone must have thrown them, but apparently didn’t wake the Mundilfari household.

A sentry now stands guard at the Grand House, while the inhabitants – Vi, Hilde, and Tess – have moved into the more secure Arendelle Castle to continue steering the kingdom’s affairs undisturbed.

“Anna’s entrusted me with governance until her return, and she will come back soon,” she told her own reporters at this newspaper. “I won’t be intimidated by some petty idiot that desires a challenge with me – show yourself, knave, for these silly attempts at intimidation insult my power as the First Vampire.”

Countess Viola Mundilfari: All About Arendelle’s First Vampire!

“Your Vampiress” by Inkwhite (@Inkwhite_mo)

Viola Mundilfari, better known as Countess Vi or simply Vi, is the tritagonist (third main character, after Anna and Elsa) of this fanfiction project’s story. Your friendly editor thought that she deserved her own profile, especially to help any new readers that don’t know who she is! I hope you enjoy this summary of her journey so far as this newspaper’s main OC.

Chief

Meet the Countess

Don’t mind this Draculina’s sharp wit and sharper fangs: she’s someone you want by your side always!

A former antagonist of Queen Anna-turned-ally and anti-heroine, Countess Vi is a charismatic and caring vampire that watches over you by night. Second only to Anna and Elsa as drivers of Arendelle’s destiny, the charming Vi lives in a stately home in Arendelle called the Grand House, serves as Queen Anna’s prime minister, and holds court with her own household: her werewolf general and lifelong protector Commander Hilde, and her English sweetheart Tess Gaunt. Behind her shield of sardonic, dry wit and slight snobbishness and sarcasm, hides a tender heart that desperately wants to do the right thing. Once a human noble, her vampirism is a result of her saving Tess’s life: a defining act that has shaped her immortal existence forever.

Welcome to her first official profile!

VEXED VI: Arendelle’s Countess dogged by unknown harasser

“The First Vampire” by hannah.digiart (@HDigiart)

By Mikael, Senior Reporter for The Arendelle Guardian

ARENDELLE – As Her Majesty embarks on her journey to the Forbidden City, things have taken a turn for the bizarre and perplexing in Arendelle. Anna’s de facto regent, the aristocratic vampire Viola Mundilfari, is suffering a string of slanderous attacks against her character and position by a mysterious assailant.

“Beast of the night.”

“Repent and just wither away.”

“You should be locked up.”

“You don’t deserve a drop of blood.”

Shortly after Anna departed for the Celestial Empire, Vi began receiving upwards of five pieces of hate mail per day at the prime minister’s office and her own home, with the government suspending Vi’s public appearances to prevent the harasser from getting near her. Some of the letters are incoherent insults, with expletives scrawled in capital letters that we can’t print. Others contain eerie allusions to her complicated past and insulting references to her undead state. Furthermore, posters have been pasted intrusively on the walls of homes and businesses, with an accurately drawn rendition of Lady Mundilfari’s profile and insults like “Fiend” or “Night Creature” scrawled at the top.

Residents and shopkeepers across the kingdom have told reporters that the vicious posters are unwelcome.

VICTORY as Queen Anna stakes vampire traitor Countess Vi through her heart

By Mikael, Defence Reporter for The Arendelle Guardian

The desperate rebellion against Anna led by Countess Vi, Anna’s former prime minister, is about to be crushed by Her Majesty. As this article is going to press, the newly conquered states of the Southern Isles, Chatho, Weselton, and Vesterland will be recognizing Anna as the new and first Empress of Arendelle.

Loyal citizens of Arendelle, rejoice! Our beautiful motherland is now the Empire of Arendelle!

Since the death of Elsa, Anna was tragically broken and, as if a fire was lit within her, gloriously rallied and wiped out all her enemies. Seeing herself as a failure, she rapidly reorganized our kingdom into an engine of “total war,” and began a campaign of relentless expansion. Now Arendelle is several times its original size, having swallowed all her former allies, and with a navy that has blown apart the Prussian and Austrian fleets in Europe. Anna is even poised to wrench colonies in Asia and the Americas from their original masters of the British and French.

Yet in the midst of all this glory, the Countess claimed that Anna had lost her way and instigated a rebellion. Treason! It’s obvious that she simply wanted to seize the new Arendellian Empire for herself. After more than two years of fierce civil war, Her Majesty has crushed Vi’s forces and is now poised to seize Mundilfari Keep itself!

The sister-queens are dead. All hail the Last Sister!

Long live Empress Anna!

Preparation: The War Through an Arendellian’s Eyes

By Alan Nadeau III

The Russo-Arendellian War has left a mark on Arendellians from all walks of life. For those in Anna’s inner circle, the impact has been felt especially hard. The burden of the kingdom’s leadership is to shoulder the losses and casualties inflicted by a foreign power. Alan Nadeau III, one of Anna’s most trusted knights and a member of her chivalric order of the Wheat Stalk, has found himself at the heart of Anna’s battles with Russia’s Grand Dukes. As he reflects on his moments of glory as well as shocking defeat, he ponders on how far Arendelle has come, and how much danger lies ahead.

*

I was back home in Arendelle, following my joining Honeymaren and Amira in battle against Nykras. I’d suffered a couple of minor injuries but nothing severe, although my sword had shattered yet again, dealing a blow to my pride as well. But I had bigger concerns.

I’d gone downstairs to the drawing room see Queen Anna, Michael, and the others. Recently, the love of my life, Queen Emerita and Fifth Spirit Elsa, had headed up to the Dark Sea’s shores to stop the Grand Duke’s advance to Ahtohallan. I’d been worried sick and in an earlier phase of my battle alongside Maren, I remembered seeing that damn lich send three of the other four spirits into what he called a “nether realm.” It was like something out of some fantastic storybook, and it angered me to no end. Why are such beings of power so often horrible, awful individuals? I wanted to give chase, to fight him, but Maren and Amira talked me out of it. Good thing they did. I needed to get back to the homeland and prepare for Sora and Katina’s arrival. Everyone would be needed.

Editor’s Notes: The AG’s OCs – Countess Vi

Featured image “The Countess,” by hanna.digiart (@HDigiart)

// Hi! I wanted to do something new and add this to the blogroll today, taking the chance while there’s a lull in the Russo-Arendellian War event to discuss with you some “behind-the-scenes” talk. Specifically, about the plethora of OCs in this project.

I’d love to get your thoughts about OCs as well. What are we getting right, and what can we do better? Feel free to make any comments below or join the discussion on The AG’s Twitter account, @arendelleguard1.

I remember coming across an anonymous comment by someone who’d visited The Arendelle Guardian. They’d posted on a forum our movie poster-themed promotion of Anna’s story with the Exalted (below). The caption was something along the lines of, “This makes more sense when you read the thing.”

Their comment was pretty funny, but it also raised an important point: how can you make your OCs merge seamlessly into the world you’re writing about?

Anna’s Column: Being wracked with guilt is an awful thing

Featured image “Team Mundilfari,” by Arute (@ast05water)

The Battle of Arenfjord is over, but I’ve felt sick to my stomach for days on end. I’d known of Commander Hilde’s critical condition ever since the werewolf warrior was brought back to Arendelle Castle on a stretcher, her body nearly cleaved in half by Yaraslaf’s polearm. She didn’t even have time to be undressed and bathed; she needed the wounds tended to and for the bleeding to stop. The Grand Duke is dead and gone, beaten by Elsa at the last minute, and we can turn our attentions to Northuldra’s defence now. But I’ve felt… paralyzed.

Usually, I’d be the first to visit the wounded and infirm to provide comfort and encouragement, but with Hilde, I’ve been finding it strangely difficult. Maybe it’s because Hilde was under my direct command. Perhaps it was because I know how important she is to Vi, and that the Countess has stayed with her for nearly every waking hour.

Why haven’t I dropped by her room yet? Maybe because this is my first war. This is the first war fought under my stewardship of the kingdom. Any loss, even potential loss, is debilitating and heartbreaking to me. Get better soon, Hilde, and teach me to be as amazing a pugilist as you again. I’ll even go easy on you.

Ha. In my dreams.
